You may have heard "lifestyle photography" circling the internet. This photoshoot is the exact definition of that.

This mid July day was so, so hot. All five of us were dripping sweat when we left, it was past bedtime, the babies didn't want to be held. But can you even tell? Mom and Dad did such a good job at encouraging them to be silly and letting them interact with their environment. So often we want to control the situation, but if we just accept that kids will get dirty, cry, do their own thing, it takes all the pressure off. I always tell my clients that it feels so hectic during the moment, but you can't even tell in the photos. I promise if you just laugh and have fun you will have great photos no matter what.

I've been so drawn to photographs like this lately. I reference it anytime I talk about photography, but I always refer back to the old photographs we have of our family members. 9 out of 10 times those photographs aren't posed. They're photographs of our moms, dads, grandparents interacting with us, sitting around and telling stories, making dinner with the whole family. "Selfies" took over and now I feel like if we're not smiling for the photo it is considered a "bad photo." We still need those "bad photos." We need to see us genuinely IN the moment.

So moral of the story is, just let your babies be babies. Let me capture you in the moment.

And, as always, a moment for mom and dad.
